I had an interesting email conversation about the article i posted last week. I thought I’d post it. Join the conversation… let me know your thoughts.
…On another note, a few years ago I had actually heard about the Washington Post Article that you posted on your website recently. The results of that “social experiment” are quite sad, but if you stop to think about it, probably what one would expect in this day and age. Makes you wonder if society at large can actually recognize the talent and genius of a musician like that, or if they can only appreciate/recognize that talent once its recognized for them. In any case, do you happen to have the date of that article?
Looking forward to the new album!
-Jared
…I don’t have the date of that article. Honestly though, I don’t think of it like that. Its not a sad fact of society…its human nature. Its our job as artists to understand human nature and play with it. People want to feel like they are privy to something special. You need to create that atmosphere. I don’t think that its a surprise to anyone that presentation is important.
I look forward to presenting this album to you in a way that makes you feel special.

The Many Splendored Thing……
Perception
…something to think about…
Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.
4 minutes later:
The violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.
6 minutes:
A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.
10 minutes:
A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.
45 minutes:
The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.
1 hour:
He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.
This is a true story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities. The questions raised: In a common place environment – at an inappropriate hour -do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?
One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made…. How many other things are we missing?

Though this site seems like its been getting stale, I assure you… in the real world this band has been working harder than ever before. Its hard to focus on finishing this album and keeping up the myspace at the same time. On top of that I’ve been working with 4 other artists on their records. As you can imagine things have been crazy.
We’ve mixed and remixed and mixed the album again and again. Then we decided to track a few more songs. I need us to get this thing right… so we are getting it right.
When all is said and done there will be a complete vision. Something that makes you think and feel and believe. Something that soniclly is more focused. The album’s lyrics and music are more honest.
The wheels are truely in motion on all levels for this group. Please be patient. Just a few more weeks and the album will be completed.
Not Twitter….its TITter…. hollyyyyy shit this is funny! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hYPXgGuATc

Sooooo the album mix due date has come and gone… and nope its safe to say. We still have a few days left on this bad boy. No worries. I just got home from Brooklyn. We got some help on mixing “all you need” from Asi Spector. He helped me a lot on the last record. I felt like I wanted to get him in the mix a bit. Otherwise, I’m shot. Alllllll day long just work on this record. I love it… and yet its sooo draining. I don’t sleep. I just work alllllll day. Crista and Steve are busting their asses too. Steve came over last night after work. He came to this city from long island at 10 … we worked till 2:30 got up at 8:30 to finish tracking in time to mix at 330. Just got home. The urgency that we created because of having a deadline now has sparked a little flame under our asses. We should have an album done in this next week or so… no bullshit this time. And it will hopefully make an impact on people.

Wow. I Love This. We covered this song for our CD release party. Street Music – \"Stand By Me\" around the word!
You may think that we are supposed to eat Mexican and Drink Coronos till we drop… but there is real meaning to Cinco De Mayo.
According to Wikipedia:
Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico.[1][2] The holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn.[3][4]
ps… its not Mexican independence day.

Where are we at? Well still recording. Thinking a lot about you. Will this album make sense… Have we gone overboard. Who fuckin knows! Anywhooo… Hofstra on May 2nd was great. Connected with a lot of cool kids. I love playing college shows. I always feel like I’m hanging with all friends. It was cool to play with the ATAL guys. I haven’t seen them in a long time. It was great to see them still doing there thing… and doing it well.
